Funeral services for Bert C Blackmun were held at 2:00 pm, Monday, at the Methodist Church with the Rev Harvey Sander officiating Randall Hall Jr sand two selections, accompanied by Mrs Robert Wegner. American Legion pallbearers were: W J Paetzinck, H P Fangen, Vern Tuthill, E F Paeth, Wm H Rock and Vern Naeve. Leland Christian, Commander of the Groton American Legion Post No 39 had charge of the military services at the Groton Union Cemetery. Bertrum Claude Blackmun was born at Inverness, Florida, on September 18, 1893, to Alice Olivia, and Art Orlando Blackmun. He spent his childhood near White, SD and attended the Automotive School in Kansas City and entered military service in 1918, later coming to Groton in 1920 to work for Bowles Motor Company. He married Hazel D Bowder on July 3, 1925. One daughter, Mary Alice Jensen was born to them. Prior to an accident on August 18, 1950, Mr Blackmun was a lineman for the Groton-Ferney Mutual Telephone Company. After four months hospitalization, he remained in poor health and underwent surgery several times during the past year. In spite of his long illness he remained in good spirits until his death at his home on Saturday, April 21st. Mr Blackmun was a loving husband and father, and a friend to many. He especially enjoyed the many children of the neighborhood. Survivors are his widow; one daughter, Mrs Robert L Jensen; two brothers, Earl of Grotona and Floyd of St Paul, Minn; one sister, Mrs A J Bernard, Minneapolis; an aunt, Mrs Bertha Matthews of Ortonville, Minn; three grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs Bertrum (Hazel) D Backmun, 75, a resident of Colonial Manor of Groton, were held at 10:30 am Monday, Dec 2, in the United Methodist Church of Groton, with the Rev John Maines officiating. Burial was in the Groton Union Cemetery. Mrs Blackmun died Friday, Nov, 29, at Dakota Midland Hospital. Music was provided by Mrs Mark Forgey, Aberdeen, soloist, who sang 'In the Garden' and 'Abide With Me,' accompanied by Mrs Gene Cassels, organist. Pallbearers were George Alberts Jr, Gerlad Cassels, David Doeringsfeld, Harry Pharis Jr, Larry Pharis and Robert Snyder. Hazel Dewetta Bowder was born March 5, 1899 in Forest City, Iowa. The family moved to Huron and later to the Timber Lake area. After her mother's death in 1918, she made her home with her sister, Mrs Theodore Funie in Groton. She was married to Bertrum C Blackmun July 3, 1925, at Groton where she has resided since. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs Robert (Mary Alice) Jensen, Groton; one brother, Frank Bowder, Salem, Ore; thre grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs Blackmun was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and two sisters. Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial services were held for Earl O Blackmun, 77 Saturday, Nov 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Groton, with the Rev James Wright officiating and the Rev Robert Carey of Aberdeen assisting at the burial in the Groton Union Cemetery. Mr Blackmun died Wednesday, Nov 2 at the Juel Egg Co, in Groton. Casket bearers were Steve Herron, Don Hoops, Ed Fordham, Juel Kolbo, Monte Kolbo and Edward Stauch. All his friends were honorary casket bearers. Music was provided by Mrs Ben Anderson, Mrs James Wright and Mrs Clayton Sternhagen sang a duet "In The Garden" and "Amazing Grace." Ushers were Ben Anderson and Otho Rix. The Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Mr Blackmun was born July 29, 1906, at White, SD. His family moved to Florida, then to Ortonville, Minn, where he graduated from high school. He moved to the Groton area in 1929 where he has lived since, working as an electrician. He married Phyllis Schoch of Groton on June 6, 1939. Survivors include his widow; one son, David, Groton; one daughter, Mrs Robert (Laurel) Sparks, San Diego, Calif; one sister, Doris Bernard, Minneapolis, Minn; four grandchildren, Michael and David Blackmun, Groton; and Erin and Ben Spars, San Diego, Calif, and numerous nephews and nieces, one of whom Mary Alice Blackmun Jensen, lives at Groton. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bert and Floyd.
