Jennette Thompson & her 2 husbands


Jeanette J Thompson, another daughter of Edward Thompson & Minerva Roberts, was born in 1892 and married twice. First to Raymond Cecil Groves who died a short 5 years into their marriage; then Albert J Beard Sr.

Mrs Albert Beard

Mrs Jennette J Beard, aged 76, of Johnstown, died Wednesday, October 16 at Johnstown Hospital following a long illness.  Mrs Beard was born February 20, 1892, in Mayfield, the daughter of Edward and Minerva (Roberts) Thompson.   She was married to Albert J Beard, who died in 1951.  She was formerly town clerk and a member of the Town Board of the Town of Ephratah, Fulton County.  She had lived in Johnstown for the past 15 years and was a former resident of Gloversville.  She was a member of the Mayfield United Methodist Church.  Surviving are a son, Albert J Beard, Jr of Milford; two daughters, Mrs Charles Heagle of Johnstown, and Mrs Pierre Alric of Gloversville; a sister, Miss Beatrice Thompson of Mayfield; 14 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Friday, October 18, from the Brown and Ehle Funeral Home in Johnstown, with the Rev Larry A Winkler, pastor of the Mayfield United Methodist church, officiating.  Burial was in Ephratah Cemetery..

The funeral of Raymond Cecil Groves was held at the late home at Mayfield yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock and was largely attended.  Rev J C Booth of the Mayfield Methodist Church officiated and the young man's Sunday school class attended in a body, also the Odd Fellows Lodge of the village.  There were many floral tributes including pieces from the Constant Workers, the W CTU, the King's Daughters, the Epworth League, the Unique Glove Co, the Dorcas Class, the Albert Glove Co, Warner & Fonda, and IOOF Lodge, 688.  The bearers were Harry Dixon, Harland Brown, Clarence Alvord, Bruce Bennett, Frank Bennett and Jay Haines.  The IOOF Lodge carried out its ritual at the grave in Mayfield Cemetery. He was buried on 11 Oct 1918 at Union Rural Cemetery in Mayfield, Fulton Co, New York.

Albert Beard, 76, Dies; Was Cattle Dealer
Gloversville - Albert J Beard Sr, 76, of RD 1 Gloversville, a retired cattle dealer, died Tuesday following fiver years of failing health.  Funeral services will be held at 2 pm tomorrow,  in the Eugene Hollenbeck Jr Funeral Home.  Rev Kenneth Waite of the Mayfield Methodist Church and Rev Harry Pettengill of the Ephratah Methodist Church will officiate.  Burial will be in Ephratah Cemetery.  A resident of this area since 1912, he was born in Eminence on Dec 1, 1880.  He took residence on the Gloversville-Mayfield Road in 1943 when he purchased the Fair View farm.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs Jeanette Beard; one daughter, Mrs Pierre Alric of RD, Gloversville; two sons, Edward J Beard Jr, of RD, Hokum [and Albert J Beard Jr, of Canandaigua] ; two sisters Mrs Frank Berry of Gloversville and Mrs Pauline Adamson of Utica; two brothers, Ashley Beard of Ephratah and Morgan Beard of Cobleskill; one step daughter, Mrs Charles Heagle Jr of Johnstown; 12 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edward Beard, Ex-Resident, Dies in Florida
Edward J Beard, 43, of Boca Raton, Fla, a former Johnstown resident, died unexpectedly yesterday at Boca Raton, where he had resided for the last six years.  Born in Ephratah, March 7, 1921, the son of Albert J and Jeanette Thompson Beard, he was married to the former Geraldyne Musgrave on Jan 3, 1942.  Mr Beard at one time operated the Fair Acres farm near Mayfield, and also was formerly associated with Korkay Inc of Johnstown.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boca Raton, the Elks Lodge, also of that city, and the Kiwanis Club of Deerfield Beach, Fla.  Survivors besides his wife are two sons, Richard Beard of Boca Raton, and Edward J Beard Jr, serving with the Air Force on Okinawa; a daughter, Miss Susan Beard of Boca Raton; his mother Mrs Albert Beard of Johnstown, and two sisters, Mrs Charles Heague of Johnstown and Mrs Marion Alric of Gloversville.

Mrs Geraldyne M Beard, 45, of 103 West First Avenue, died at 5:15 this morning at the Johnstown Hospital where she had been a patient since July 20. Born in Johnstown, Oct 9, 1920, she was the daughter of Hugh M Musgrave and Mrs Mildred E Reese of Johnstown.  Mrs beard was the widow of Edward J Beard Sr who died Sept 3, 1964.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boca Raton, Fla, and a charter member of the Elks auxiliary of the same city.  She was a member of corresponding secretary of the Colonial Little Theater.  Survivors in addition to her mother and father, include one daughter, Miss Susan J Beard of Johnstown; two sons, Edward J Bear Jr of McConnell Air Base, Wichita, Kan, and Richard J Beard of Johnstown; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Herbert & Martha Kneeskern



Martha Louise Thompson was the daughter of Edward Thompson & Minerva Roberts, sister to Rev Thompson.  She married Herbert Kneeskern and had 3 children - Doris, Beatrice & Keith.

Mrs Martha Kneeskern, 60, wife of Herbert Kneeskern of Ephratah, died this afternoon at 12:15 in Littauer Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks.  She had been in ill health for five years.  Mrs Kneeskern was born in Mayfield, but had resided in Ephratah [25] years.  The survivors, besides her husband, are two daughters, Mrs Howard Sleezer of RD1 and Mrs Gerald Whitehouse of Gloversville; one son, Keith of Albany; two sisters, Mrs A J Baird and Miss Beatrice Thompson of Mayfield, and several nieces and nephews.  The body was taken to the Walrath & Bushouser funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street.  Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Herbert Kneeskern, 78, died Thursday afternoon following a long illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs Gerald Whitehouse, Fort Plain RD 3, where he had resided for the past three years.  Born March 16, 1893, in the Town of Ephratah, he was son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Smith Kneeskern and had been a dairy farmer for most of his life.  Prior to retiring in 1964, he had also been employed for seven years as a logger.  In 1913, in Mayfield, he was married to Martha Thompson who died Aug 14, 1949.  He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses of Kingdom Hall, Nelliston.  Survivors include another daughter, Mrs Howard Sleezer, Scotia; a son, Keith Kneeskern Caroga Lake; a brother, Steven Kneeskern, Scotia; and a sister, Mrs Nettie Palmateer, both of Ephratah; three grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm at the Swartz Funeral Home, Fort Plain, with John Lehman of Kingdom Hall, Nelliston, officiating.  Interment will be Ephratah Cemetery in the spring.
