The Rest of the Hogans

In the last post, I wrote about Harold who went missing during WWII.  This post is about the rest of his family.

As mentioned, he was the son of Nelson Ernest Hogan & Anna Huldah Smith - thru the Smith line, it traces back to Hezekiah Rogers Jr & Hannah Vincent.

Nelson, a carpenter by trade, was the son of Morris Hogan & Lucy Lawson and was a widower with 3 children when he married Anna in 1900.


Anna was the daughter of New Yorkers, Alfred C Smith & Electa Anne Pasco; together, they had 3 children - Morris, Mamie & Harold.

Lansing State Journal, Wed, 4 Jun 1947
Nelson E Hogan, 77, of 1601 Bailey Street, died Tuesday afternoon. He had been a resident of Lansing for the past 43 years, coming her from Washtenew county. Survivors are the widow, Anna; two sons, Lawrence and Morris of Lansing; three daughters, Mrs Lola Gunter and Mrs Burnie Bennett, both of Lansing, and Mrs Ernest Heller of Ann Arbor; and one brother, Vernon Hogan of Lansing. Funeral services will be held at the Estes-Leadley Colonial Chapel at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev D Thurlow Yaxley of the South Baptist Church officiating, with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Bearers will be Donald Hogan, Howard Hogan, Harold Bennett, Alfred Wagner, Donald Heller and Richard Heller.

Anna remarried twice after Nelson's death - she first married James Norton Galloway in 1949 and after he died in 1951, she married Roy Smith Simons

Their eldest son, Morris Edward Hogan was born in 1902 and he married Gladys Gertrude Stair, the daughter of Floyd P Stair & Elizabeth Hummel. They had 4 children - Betty, Norma, Donald, & Phyllis. 



Mamie Dorothy Hogan was born in 1903 and she married Burnie Bennet, the son of John Bennett & Margaret Hitchman.  They had 2 children - Ruth & Harold
