Dorothy Eldora Phinney

If you have been following the stories, the name Eldora probably jumped out at you - Eldora Elizabeth Vincent was the daughter of George 'Josh' Vincent and Matilda Swallow - remember the story of Matilda having to sue George's father to keep a cow to feed her baby?  This is Matilda's great-granddaughter

Dorothy Eldora Phinney was the daughter of Wendell Louis Phinney and Lila 'Edith' Trescott (Lila was Eldora's daughter).

The Sun Chronicle, 5 May 2008
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Dorothy Eldora Phinney, 98, of Stanley Street, Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, went to home to be with her beloved Lord on Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro, where she had been a short-time resident.  Born in Pawtucket on Jan. 7, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Wendell and Edith (Trescott) Phinney.

She resided in Pawtucket until moving to Massachusetts and settling in North Attleboro with her family and where she continued her education and graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1927. She then attended and graduated from the former Sargent College in Cambridge.

A woman known for her grace, style and elegance, it was only appropriate that her career as a cosmetic consultant and retailer would span decades and have her traveling the country.  Many years ago, she was employed by the W.T. Ross Company and My Lady's in North Attleboro.

Following her education, Ms. Phinney began her professional employment with a health salon in Springfield, and then went to work at the Elizabeth Arden Salon in New York City, where she worked until 1933, when she traveled the country as a member of the Arden Face and Fashion Show.  Years later, she was employed as a national cosmetic consultant for Richard Hudnut.

In her various roles, she attended flower shows, sportsman shows and new invention shows demonstrating the newest items of fashion, exercise and cosmetics.  A woman ahead of her time, she remained independent and at one time traveled the world aboard a cruise ship as a member of the cruise staff.  In later years she was a familiar face throughout the local retail circuit, having been employed by the former London's Department Store, Charlton's Dress Shop and Vigorito's in North Attleboro for many years and often assisted her dear friend Betty Poirier at the Nifty Nook.  A true sales lady, she loved her profession that allowed daily interaction and conversation and was proudest to please her customer's every need in any manner.

For more than 40 years, she celebrated her faith with her church family at the Advent Christian Church of Attleboro.  She leaves no immediate family members but a host of friendships that she treasured and cherished for many years.

Visitation has been respectfully omitted at her request.  The community is welcome to join her church family and host of friends for a Celebration of Her Joyful Resurrection with Her Beloved Lord on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. at the Advent Christian Church of Attleboro, 560 Pleasant St., Attleboro with the Rev. Robert Hett, pastor leading in prayer and assisted with personal remembrances.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, it was Ms. Phinney's request that you demonstrate a random act of kindness on someone and smile and think of her in remembrance when doing so.  To send the family an expression of sympathy, please visit an online register book at www.dyer-lakefuneralhome.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, 508-695-0200.
