Thank Goodness for Old Books!

Over the years I have become pretty good at sussing out clues, leads and sources for my tree but I can't image where I'd be without the internet archive and all the books that have been published! One in particular not only helped with some Vincent relatives but also some Pecks who run thru the Vincent lines multiple times.

It's a book that was published by Ira Ballou Peck in 1868 and while I refer to it simply as "A genealogical history of the descendants of Joseph Peck" - the full title needs a paragraph of its own ~~

"A genealogical history of the descendants of Joseph Peck, who emigrated with his family to this country in 1638, and records of his father's and grandfather's families in England, with the pedigree extending back from son to father for twenty generations, with their coat of arms, and copies of wills, also, an appendix, giving an account of the Boston and Hingham Pecks"

It was an important find as many trees & even his memorial on Find A Grave had his parents as unknown ~~ including that of his wife Margaret where I confirmed via a book by Charles G B Conger, published in 1903 called "A record of the births, marriages and deaths of the descendants of John Conger of Woodbridge, N.J. through his grandson, Job Conger, of Woodbridge, N.J. and Albany Co., N.Y"

Woot!

So we have Benjamin Franklin Peck born in Halfmoon, to Jeremiah Peck & Sally Houghtalin. Benjamin first married Margaret Conger, the daughter of William Conger & Catherine Van Valkenburgh and had 3 children together - Eron, John & a baby who died in infancy. After her death in 1860, Benj married Abigail H Dudley and they had one daughter Ella J Peck.

Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Wed, 4 May 1892
Benjamin F Peck, an old resident of Wolcott, died on Monday last at the age of 74 years. He was stricken with paralysis on Friday last while in the stable caring for his horse, and fell under the horse where he was found shortly afterward by Mr Mengle who removed him to the house. He could articulate to some extent when found, but continued to fail until the hour of his death. Deceased was one of the Coroners of the County and was occupying the second term of the office. He was widely known as a man of integrity and good judgment.

His son Eron Jeremiah Peck married Catherine Ann Henry, the daughter of William E Henry & Olive Parker; they had 3 children - Gertrude, Almina, & Frank.

While the initials are wrong in this obit, it is for Eron Jeremiah Peck - confirmed via the siblings & daughter listed.
