Truro - Ivan Herrick Smith, 49, of 92 Harmony Road, Truro, died at his home Monday.  Born in Brule, a son of Lester and the late Cora (Langille) Smith, he had been a resident of Salmon river for 20 years.  He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Taylor; four daughters, heather, Toronto; Debbie, Beth, Doreen, all at home; a son, Kenneth, at home; a sister Elsie (Mrs Ronald Fraser), Moncton, NB.  The body is at the Mattatall Funeral Home.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Smith (Taylor) Ruth Eleanor, 82 of Salmon River passed suddenly at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre on December 7, 2013. Born in Truro, Ruth was the daughter of the late Percy and Edith (Cruickshank) Taylor. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Heather MacKenzie (Les), Debbie (Creelman), Beth Estabrooks (Peter), Doreen; son, Ken (Denise Lynds); grandchildren, Melodie, Joanna, Amanda, Craig, Nichole, Mitchell; great grandchild, Ashley; brother, Joe Taylor (Irene), sisters and best friends, Gwen Johnston and Olga Cummings. Ruth is predeceased by her husband, Ivan; partner of many years, Joe Smith; brothers, Ira and Lee; and sister, Shirley (Doucette). Ruth’s family was her pride and joy. Her green thumb was the envy of many, flowers always in bloom. She was always enthralled by the birds a plenty that flocked to her bird feeder, with the cardinal capturing her and the family cat, Benny’s, special attention. Ruth became the unofficial ambassador of the Good Time Seniors Club Tuesday night dances. Her infectious smile and quick wit greeted friends and dance partners for 20 years. Ruth was a beautiful woman both inside and out, with a family who will miss her deeply. Until they see her again, she will be their ‘garden’ angel looking over them. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at the Salmon River Fire Hall on Thursday, December 12th from 1-4 pm. In Ruth’s memory, donations may be made a charity of choice.
