Found Another One!

I found another one of my dead ends!

 As I have said before, my 4x grandfather and his family was a nightmare to find and piece together; kids just sitting there, knowing they were born but that's it.  

~ But, I found one their grandchildren~ 

Maud ‘Edith’ King was born in Jun 1883 at Winnipeg, Manitoba to Harriet Amelia ‘Millie’ Vincent & James King - Millie was there with her husband where her brother RD lived.  Millie & James moved around a lot where he worked for the railroad but their first three children were born in Canada.

Between 1900 - 1910, Maud and her family were living in Connecticut.  During this time, her future husband was making his way over from Scotland.

Lawrence Fargie Soutter who was born in Greenock to Hercules Doig Soutter & Catherine Jane Wilson arriving in Montreal in 1907 on board the Corinthian.

Ancestry - UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960

 Although it indicated he was a grocer, the censuses & draft cards shows he was a carpenter turned farmer by 1940 which will make sense once I fill in the rest of the story.

As mentioned, Maud was with her parents in Connecticut up until 1910, and by 1915, she and Lawrence are married, have a new born son and are living in Hudson, New York [son listed as daughter Florence but it's Lawrence Jr]

They lost a baby girl Ruth to Spina Bifida in 1919 and it's the first conclusive evidence that I have the right Maud

The 2nd bit of information that suggests I have the right Maud is the lovely names she gave her 2 surviving children - Lawrence KING Soutter and Allyn VINCENT Soutter - she loved her parents is all I can conclude!

Lawrence died in 1954 - I think he died in Longmeadow, MA based on the directories I found for them between 1953 & 1955 and Allyn's obit below but he could have died in NY.  He is buried in North Carolina at the Mount Hope Cemetery - the same cemetery as Maud's mother - making it possible that they are all there.  

Maud died in 1973 at Glens Falls, NY and the SSN information found on Ancestry cinched the deal for me

I don't know if Lawrence Jr ever married but he died in 1991 - I am thinking he died at Longmeadow, MA based on his Vet Benefit App and the information from Allyn's obit below.

Fehl, Allyn Vincent GLENS FALLS -- Allyn Vincent Fehl, 82, of Arbor Drive, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Born on Sept. 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence F. and Edith (King) Soutter.  She maintained the family flower and vegetable farms in both East Longmeadow, Mass. and Glens Falls.  Her interest in pottery led her to establish three different American handcraft shops, in Siesta Key, Fla., Saint Armond's Key, Fla. and Lake George. She made many wonderful friendships in the craft trade and in her other endeavors.  Allyn is survived by a son, James L. Fehl and his wife, Judith (Lee), of Salem, N.Y.; two grandsons, Jeffrey L. Fehl and his significant other, Renee Lochner, and their son, Keegan, of Hudson Falls, and Justin D. Fehl and his fiancee, Angela Bardin, of Fort Edward.  There will be no calling hours at Allyn's request.  A memorial gathering of the immediate family and close friends will be held at the Fehl residence in Salem in the near future.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Donations in memory of Mrs. Fehl may be made to The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.  Arrangements are under the direction of M.B.
