Ethel Tucker



Ethel Maud Tucker was the daughter of Daniel Robert Tucker and Marie Marguerite Arbuckle and a sister to Sadie Tucker.  Ethel married John Pugh Greer, and they had 2 boys – John & William

Private funeral services for John P Greer, 80, of 19 Islington St, a World War and II Navy Veteran, were held today at Buckminster Chapel.  The Rev John N Feaster, D D, pastor of the North Congregational Church, officiated.  Born in Brentwood, Tenn, Oct 19, 1888, he was the son of Winfield and Lou Emma (Grimes) Greer.  For many years he was a Chief Warrant Officer in the Navy.  He was a member of St John's Lodge, F&AM, of Portsmouth; the Scottish Rite Bodies, including Diacho Consistory, 32nd Degree, of Charleston, SC.  He attended the North Congregational Church and was a member of the Fleet Reserve.  Survivors include his widow, Mrs Ethel M (Tucker) Greer; two sons, Dr William E R Greer of Needham, Mass and John D Greer of Portsmouth; a brother, Paul F Greer of Tampa, Fla; a sister, Mrs Lee T Record of Tampa; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Their son John Daniel Greer born in 1915, died in 1983 and was buried at the Harmony Grove Cemetery with his wife and first son Gary.  Like his father, he served in the Navy.  John's wife Hazel was born in Maine and together they had 2 more boys, Gordon and Richard.

Ethel & John's other son, William Edward Ross Greer served in Army and became a doctor.  William was born in 1918, died in 2011 and was buried at the Needham Cemetery.  William's wife Mary was from Connecticut and together they had 3 children, Beverly, Scott & Stuart.
