Swade - Delamater - Montfort

Susan Swade, was the daughter of Abraham Swade & Sarah Johnson and sister to Johnson Swade & 2 feisty sisters - Catharine & Sarah.

Susan married Perry Decatur Delamater, the son of Benjamin Delamater & Almira Row and they had3 children - Abram, Sarah & John.

Perry died in 1898 & Susan in 1900; Abram never married & John P married a girl named Annie - John died in 1917, Annie in 1951 but I don't know anything else about them. Sarah married John Montfort.

Susan & Abram's obit couldn't have been simpler....

Sarah Elizabeth Delamater was the daughter of Perry Decatur Delamater & Susan Swade. Around 1873, she married James E Montfort, the son of John J Montfort & Hannah Birett.

Mrs Sarah Del Montfort Dies At Age Of 83 Years
Mrs Sarah E Montford, wife of James Montford, age 83 years, died yesterday at her home, LaGrangeville.  Surviving her are her husband, who is 86 years old; a son, Abram of LaGrangeville; two granddaughters, Mrs Philip Finkbeiner of Clinton Corners, and Mrs Frank Boyle of Poughkeepsie, and three grandsons, Ralph, James and Merill Montford, all of LaGrangeville. The Rev Chalmers Holbrook, pastor of the Federated Church, Millbrook, will officiate at funeral services, which will be held at her late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Interment will be at the Freedom Plains Cemetery under the direction of Eugene Allen of Millbrook.

Their son, Abram Edwin Montfort, married Jennie M Losee & they had 5 children - Blanche, Ralph, Marill, James & Ivie. Jennie was the daughter of George W Losee & Ellen D Tompkins.

A E Montfort Dies, LaGrange
LaGrangeville - A E Montfort, 60, founder of the Arthursburg Grange and resident of the town of LaGrange the greater part of his life, died at his home Monday. Born in the town of Beekman, he was the only son of James M and Sarah Dellemeter [sic] Montfort. He graduated from DeGarmo Institute, Fishkill on Hudson. He served as master of the Arthursburg Grange sex years. Mr Montfort specialized in fruit growing the last 15 years. He was a member of the Dutchess County Farm Bureau and of Traune Lodge F and A M. Surviving Mr Montfort are his wife the former Jennie M Losee; three sons, Ralph, Marill and James, LaGrangeville; two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Masonic services will be conducted at the home at 2:30 pm, EST, Thursday. Burial will be in Freedom Plains Cemetery, directed by the Allen Funeral Home, Millbrook.

Mrs Montfort Dies After Brief Illness
Mrs Abram E Montfort, 76, who had resided with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Frank A Boyle, Manchester Road, the last 10 years, died there yesterday. She was ill only since New Year's day. The former Miss Jennie Lossee, Mrs Montfort was born in Verbank, Feb 14, 1874, the daughter of the late George and Ellen Tompkins Lossee. She was educated in local schools and at the DeGarmo Institute, Fishkill Landing. She was married to Mr Montfort in Millbrook, May 27, 1897. He died June 6, 1938. Mrs Montfort resided in LaGrangeville prior to making her home with Mr and Mrs Boyle. A member of the Verbank Methodist Church, Mrs Montfort formerly was a member of the Arthursburg Grange. Surviving, in addition to Mrs Boyle are another daughter, Mrs Blanche C Finkbeiner, town of Wappinger; a son, James E Montfort, town of Wappinger; a sister Mrs Mary Tobin, Red Hook; five grandchildren and two nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at the Robert H Auchmoody Funeral Home, 16 Grand Avenue, at 2 o'clock, Wednesday. The Rev G Elliott Presby will officiate. Burial will be in the Freedom Plains Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home between 7 and 9 o'clock tomorrow night.

Abram & Jennie's eldest, Blanche Catherine Montfort married Philip Finkbeiner, the son of Adolf Finkbeiner & Louise Yager and they had 2 girls, Evelyn & Dorothea.

Blanche Finkbeiner, 83, of 34 S Clinton St, City of Poughkeepsie, died Saturday at the Hyde Park Nursing Home after a long illness. Mrs Finkbeiner was a lifelong resident of Dutchess County and was employed as an assembler at the former Schatz-Federal Bearings Co in Poughkeepsie until her retirement in 1964. She was a former matron of the Millbrook Order of the Eastern Star. Born Dec 22, 1898, in Freedom Plains, she was the daughter of Abram and Jenny Losee Montfort. She was educated in Town of LaGrange schools. Mrs Finkbeiner is survived by five grandchildren, Sherman Bennett of Wappingers Falls, Mrs Lorraine Hawkins of Wappingers Falls, Donald Bennett of Tuscon, Ariz, Mrs Susan Temple of the City of Poughkeepsie and Mrs Marlene Hendricks of Hyde Park, and eight great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be 2 pm, Tuesday at Freedom Plains Cemetery, Freedom Plains, with the Rev Benjamin E LeFevre officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert H Auchmoody Funeral Home, 16 Grand Ave, City of Poughkeepsie.

Rinebeck - Philip Finkbeiner, 84, a former resident of Poughkeepsie, died May 11 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home. Born December 24, 1888 in New York City, Mr Finkbeiner was the son of Adolph and Louise [Yager] Finkbeiner. He was retired carpenter and a longtime resident of Middleburgh. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Edna Lohman. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Evelyn Juchen of Poughkeepsie; several brothers and sisters; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 14 at the Ferncliff Chapel, Rhinebeck. Burial was in the Breakabeen Cemetery, Middleburgh.
