Johnson Swade's Clan

A while ago I wrote about 2 feisty sisters who never married and who lived & died working the family farm. These women were aunts to Annis, Francelia & Mary Swade - daughters of Johnson Swade & Elma Dean. Like their aunts, Annis & Francelia never married and lived & died working their father's farm.

Lagrangeville - Miss Annis Swade, aged 85, died Thursday afternoon. She had not been in poor health and was seriously ill but one day. Miss Swade was a daughter of Jonathan and Elma Swade. She was born February 20, 1846, in the house where she died. Miss Swade was the last of an old and illustrious family, and with her passing, the only worldly record left is the family name on deeds to many properties in this section. A sister, with whom Miss Swade operated the farm of their father, died February 16, 1930. Since that time, Miss Swade had made her home with J Edward Alley, a distant cousin, who operated the farm. Miss Swade was always deeply interested in her church. she was a devout and faithful member of the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church. the funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from her home. Interment will be made in Freedom Plains Cemetery. Rev W J McVey will officiate.
