Rosecrans

This particular line of Rosekrans spelt the surname Rosecrans.

George W Rosecrans was one of 8 born to Benjamin Rosekrans & Mary VanSantvoord - his line leads back to Capt Benj Jacobus Rosekrans & Phebe Vincent.  

George worked as a tinsmith & married Lenora S Filkins, the daughter of John W Filkins & Hannah M Filkins. They had one surviving son, Benj J.

Died Suddenly
George W Rosecrans, one of the oldest residents of this city, died suddenly last night at the home of his son, Benjamin J Rosecrans, 88 Manor Avenue. He is survived by his son and several grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The burial will be in Union Cemetery, Crescent.

The death of Leonora S Filkins, wife of George W Rosecrans, occurred Monday at her residence in Crescent. Mrs Rosecrans was born in Crescent and had always resided there. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Halfmoon. The survivors are her husband, one son, Benjamin J Rosecrans; four grandchildren and one great grandchild, of Cohoes; a sister, Mrs J A Buck of Crescent, and a brother, Elmer Filkins of Hoosick Falls. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of her son, 88 Manor Avenue, this city, and will be private. Rev A S Clark of Round Lake will officiate. Burial will be in Crescent Union Cemetery.

 

Their son Benjamin J was a machinist at the electrical plant and he married Mary Elletia Ellet, the daughter of Charles H Ellett & Elizabeth Shuttleworth. Together they had 4 children, Harold E, Elizabeth S, Benjamin R & Arthur F.

Benjamin J Rosecrans died Saturday at the residence, 48 Euclid Street, after a long illness. Born in Crescent, he had resided in this city for the past 45 years and was a member of both the First Methodist Church and the Royal Arcanum. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs Richard VanAlstine, Chatham, and three sons, Lieut Col Harold E Rosecrans, Washington, DS, Benjamin R and Arthur F Rosecrans of this city, and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 3 pm tomorrow at the resident, 48 Euclid Street, by Rev Donald R Lewis of the First Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.

Mrs Benjamin Rosecrans
Mrs Mary E Rosecrans died last night at her home, 88 Manor Avenue, after a lingering illness.  Born in this city, the deceased always lived here. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs A R VanAlystyne of Green Island; three sons, Lieut Harold Rosecrans, US Marines, stationed in Washington, Benjamin Rosecans and Arthur Rosecrans of this city, and one sister, Alletta Ellett, also of this city. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence. Rev Eugene Wiseman will officiate.
