As young man, he signed up for WWII and while overseas, he met and married the lassie who stole his heart and their son Albert was born in Scotland before the family returned to Canada.

VINCENT, Leaman Milford - 82, Conns Mills, Cumberland Co., passed away March 16, 1998, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Hansford, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late John and Mercy (Mooring) Vincent. He was a veteran of the Second World War having served overseas with the Canadian Army Forestry Corps, 13th Company from 1940-1945. He was a school bus driver in Cumberland County for many years; was a nurses aid at the Sunset Home, Pugwash, and was also a provincial constable. He was a member of Pugwash River United Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Jessie Greig Bruce Stewart, Conns Mills; granddaughter, Karaleigh Jessie Vincent, Manitoba; brothers, Aubrey, Tatamagouche; Logan, Herrick, British Columbia; sisters, Myrtle Hatcher, Truro; Violet Langille, Pugwash Junction; Audrey Vincent, Alberta; Gladys Sleigh, Bedford; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Albert Stewart; brother, Norman; half-brothers, Earl, Clarence; sisters, Laura, Lucille, Vera, Ella, Lena. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, both in Mundle's Funeral Home, Pugwash, Rev. Beth Johnston officiating. Spring burial in Riverside Cemetery, Wallace River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Lung Association or charity of choice.
Vincent, Jessie Greig Bruce (Stewart) - 95, Amherst / Conn’s Mills, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Guthrie, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Archibald Hay and Margaret (Shand) Stewart. In her early years Jessie worked as a children’s nurse in Scotland. During wartime she worked in the Ammunition Depot examining airplane filters. In 1946 she moved to Canada as a war bride. Jessie was a member of the 50 Plus Club, the United Church Women, an adherent of the Pugwash River United Church and formerly a member of the Church of Scotland. She was a full time housewife and mother. Surviving are her granddaughter, Karaleigh Vincent, Winnipeg, Manitoba; sister, Agnes “Bunty” Kennedy, Arbroath, Scotland; daughter-in-law, Janet Vincent, Carbery, Manitoba; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Leaman Vincent; son, Albert Vincent; sisters, Ella Beaton, Ann Petrie; brother, David Stewart. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, April 27, in Mundle’s Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash (243-2506), with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Rev. Meggin King officiating with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Middleboro. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation; the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre Palliative Care Unit; the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital or the Pugwash River United Church. Their son Albert died in 1972 in Manitoba, leaving a wife and daughter behind.
