James & Lena Porteous

Lena Mabel Vincent was another child of John Sidney Osborne Vincent & Mercy Mae Mooring - she was born in 1918 and married James Porteous.

PORTEOUS, Lena Mable - 78, Tatamagouche, died May 22, 1996, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Hartford, Cumberland Co., she was the daughter of the late John Osborne and Mercy (Mooring) Vincent. She was a cook at North Colchester High School, a member of Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche and Royal Canadian Legion branch 26 auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, and travelling. Surviving are sons, John (Jack) and wife Josephine, River John, Pictou; James Theodore (Ted), Halifax; granddaughter, Loriann Canvel, Pembroke, Ont.; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mirtle Hatcher, Truro; Audrey Vincent, Calgary, Alta.; Gladys (Mrs. William Sleigh), Halifax; Violet Langille, Pugwash Junction; brothers, Leaman, Conns Mills, Cumberland Co.; Aubrey, Tatamagouche; Logan, Sardis, B.C.; Herrick, Comox, B.C.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim; infant granddaughter, Jodie Marie; sisters, Lucille, Vera, Ella, Laura; brother, Norman; half-brothers, Perle, Clarence, Earl. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with legion tribute service at 3 p.m. both today in Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Sharon United Church, the Rev. Beth Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Malagash South Shore Cemetery. If desired, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Following the burial a reception will be downstairs in Sharon United Church.

JAMES PORTEOUS - The death of James Porteous, 58, formerly of Malagash, N.S. occurred on July 10. He had resided in Tatamagouche for the past 10 years. Born in South Wallace, Cumb. Co. He was the son of the late Wesley and Jennie (KIRK) Porteous. He is survived by his wife, Lena the former Lena Vincent, two sons Theo and Jack of Halifax, granddaughter Lori Ann, two sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Edward Tracey) Waltham, Mass., Wilda (Mrs. W. Marcotte) Tatamagouche, N.S.; two brothers: Allister, Malagash, N.S. and Freeman of Oxford, N.S. The was predeceased by one sister Thelma of whom died in childhood. The remains rested at Bonnymans Funeral Home. The funeral was held on July 13 from the South Shore United Church, in Malagash, conducted by Rev. G. Todd. Pallbearers were cousins of the deceased, Earl, Aubrey and Willis KIRK, Roland, Crouse and Muir Campbell. Hymns were, Just a closer Walk With Thee and Safe in the Arms of Jesus. Interment was in South Shore Cemetery, Malagash. The many floral tributes, In Memoriams, and donations testified the esteem in which Jim was held.
