Hazel was the daughter of Lewis F Ellinger & Kate Alice Peck and she married Frank in 1913. 

Frank was the son of George W Wells & Mary J Faubios.

Funeral Services Today at Methodist Church; Burial At Oak Hill Cemetery. After an illness of only a week Mrs. Frank Wells passed away Monday night at 11 o'clock in a local hospital. Mrs. Wells death came as a shock to her many friends and neighbors. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the farm home north of Estherville, and at 2:30 at the Methodist Episcopal church. The Rev. F. W. Ortymeyer is officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Wells and her husband have been residents of this county for fourteen years coming here from a farm near Superior. Mrs. Wells was born June 12, 1894 in Sac county and was married to Frank Wells on March 18, 1913. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Lyle Jackman, Aletha and Ila, one son, Donald, and two brothers, Milo Ellinger of Wichita, Kans., and Allen Ellinger of Beaverton, Ore.

Lucy Mae Peck was the daughter of Samuel Edgar Peck & Mary Ellen Widel. She married James 'Frank' Ady in 1897 & had 7 children - Frank, Esther, Elta, Ruth, Helen, Cedric & Dorothy.

Born in Odebolt, Iowa, Sept. 4, 1878, she married there in 1897. Came to Brookings County in 1914 and to Moody County in 1916. Moved to Flandreau in 1940. Survived by the widow; two sons, Elsworth, Flandreau, and Friden [sic], Three Rivers, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Gieferd Gjere, Pipestone, Minn.; Mrs. Harry Thompson, Sisseton; Mrs. Floyd Larson and Mrs. Curtis Nass, both of Flandreau, and Mrs. Gerald Peterson, De Smet; 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Frank Elsworth Ady was the son of James Frank Ady & Lucy Mae Peck. He married Dora Katherine Larson, the daughter of Carl A Larsson & Lydia Bonderson; they had 4 children - Arlene, Francis, Marilyn & Doris.

Elsworth Ady - Funeral services for Elsworth Ady, 66, Moody county farmer who died Tuesday, were Thursday at the Methodist church in Flandreau, S. D. Burial was in the Flandreau cemetery under the direction of the Thomas funeral home. Mr. Ady was born July 11, 1898, at Spirit Lake, Iowa, and spent his childhood in Schaller, Iowa. He resided in Moody county since 1916. He married Dora Larson in 1920. Survivors include the widow; a son, Francis of Flandreau; three daughters, Mrs.Vernie Schuldt of Pipestone, Minn., Mrs. Jack Kurtz of Pittsburg, Calif., and Mrs. Carl James of Williston, N. D.; a brother, Cedric of San Jose, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. G. E. Gjero of Pipestone, Minn., Mrs. Harry Thompson of Sisseton, S. D., Mrs. Floyd Larson and Mrs. Curtis Nass, both of Flandreau, S. D., and Mrs. Gerald Peterson of DeSmet, S. D., and seven grandchildren.

Helen M Nass was born at Schaller, Ia on Feb 17, 1909 to J Frank and Lucy Mae Peck Ady. She came to Moody County with her parents when she was five years old. She started her education in rural schools and graduated from Flandreau high school in 1926. She taught school in Brookings and Moody County until her marriage to Curtis Nass on November 27, 1929 at Flandreau. From 1953 to 1973 she worked as a bookkeeper for the Moody County Oil Co in Flandreau. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, past matron of the Eastern Star and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Gladys, Mrs David Kohler, Arvada, Colo; one son Charles Nass, Sioux Falls; 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Bradley, Kathleen, Randall, Jennifer, Blake; 1 great granddaughter, Rachel; one brother, Ted, Corning, Calif; three sisters, Elta (Mrs Harry Thompson), Sisseton, Mrs Ruth Larson, Flandreau and Mrs Dorothy Peterson, Desmet. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter Carol Ann, one grandson, parents, one brother and one sister.

Widel Met Keck

This happy looking lady was Rebecca Avis Widel. She was the oldest child of Alfred Hall Widel & Eliza Jane Peck born in Iowa.  In 1887, she married a Pennsylvanian by the name of Alexander Henry Keck, the son of Jacob Keck & Lydia Nunemaker. Together they had 1 son - Roy and 1 granddaughter - Rebecca

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 pm at the M E church for Mrs A Keck who died at the Chas Gibson home Sunday evening following a stroke which she suffered Thursday. Rev W S Handy was in charge of the service. Rebecca Avis Widel was born Sept 12, 1868 in Jackson County. Later she moved with her parents to Sac county. On January 2, 1887 she was united in marriage to Alec H Keck. To this union one child, Roy, was born. In 1895 they moved to Gilmore City where Mr Keck was engaged in business until his health caused him to retire a short time before his death, May 26, 1930. Mrs Keck suffered a stroke in June 1932 and since that time has been an invalid. She suffered a second stroke on Thursday from which she never regained consciousness. She was a member of the local Methodist church and belonged to the Royal Neighbors Lodge. She is survived by two brothers, Harvey Widel of St Paul Minn, and Edward Widel of El Centre, Cal, one granddaughter, Mrs Laurence Aben, four grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Chas Stebbins, D C Bausserman, Frank Spies, J W Bausserman, John Bothwell and J F Bausserman. Interment was in Marble Valley Cemetery. Those from out of town who were here to attend the funeral of Mrs Keck were Mr and Mrs J E Keck of Sioux City, Mr and Mrs Almer Keck and son Douglas of Brookings, S D, Mr and Mrs Earl Sutherland of Schaller and Mr and Mrs Geo Miller of Early.

Alexander Henry Keck, son of Jacob and Lydia Keck, was born in Pennsylvania, March 6, 1864. He came with his parents to Iowa when sixteen years old and with then settled in Sac county. He married Rebecca Widel, January 2, 1887. To them was born one son, Roy Alfred, who passed away in December 1928. Mr. Keck came to Gilmore City in 1895 and engaged in the grocery business. Later he conducted a grocery store and restaurant. He retired from business for a few years and then built a store room and engaged in the grocery business and continued until a few years ago when he sold it to Clarence Hogan. Mr. Keck was a member of the Congregational Church and of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. He had been in poor health for some weeks and it was thought he would recover but it was not to be. He passed away Monday night, at 11 o'clock aged sixty years, two months and twenty days. His departure is mourned by the faithful companion of more than forty years; two brothers, James Keck of Brookings, SD, Jerry Keck of Independence, Mo; and one sister, Mrs Susie Miller of Early, Iowa; a granddaughter, Mrs Lawrence Abens and her son, Kenneth of Gilmore City. There are also several nephews and nieces and a host of friends. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, [x]. Interment in Marble Valley Cemetery.

Their son Roy Alfred Keck married Gesena Maria Christoffers, the daughter of Fredrick Otto Christoffers & Ethelia Janssen and they too had 1 child - a girl named Rebecca.  However, Roy & Sena divorced and he went on to marry a girl by the name of Rose Marie Konze and she married Reak H Saathoff

Roy Keck Is Buried At Gilmore Friday
Funeral services for Roy Keck of Mitchell, S Dak, who died at the Soldiers' Hospital at Kansas City, Dec 11, were held at the Methodist Church in Gilmore city, last Firday afternoon. The Rev Charles H Flesher was in charge of the services. Mr Keck, who was 40 years old at the time of his death, had been a patient at the Kansas City Hospital for a number of months. He was being treated for ulcers of the stomach. He was a resident of the Gilmore city community until 14 years ago when he moved to Mitchell. The deceased in survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs Edna Abens, and his parents, Mr and Mrs A H Keck of Gilmore City. Burial was made in the Marble Valley Cemetery north of Gilmore City.

Mrs. Gesena Maria Saathoff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederich O. Christoffers was born Oct. 2, 1888 on a farm in the Palmer area. She passed away Aug. 27 at her home following a heart attack at the age of 70 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran congregation at Palmer. She was united in marriage with Roy A. Keck, Aug.12, 1908. They made their home at Lake Park, Iowa. They were the parents of one daughter, Edna. She was united in marriage with Reak Saathoff Oct. 4, 1917. They made their home in the Palmer vicinity. In 1952 she moved to Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, seven sisters and, brothers and one grandchild. Surviving are her daughter Edna, Mrs. Lawrence Abens of Humboldt; one sister, (Etta) Mrs Henry Peters of Winthrop, Minn.; four grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Wessels of Palmer; a brother-in-law Barnie H. Saathoff of Clay Center, Neb., and 11 great-grandchildren.

Their daughter Rebecca Edna Keck married Lawrence Martin Abens, the son of Jacob Welt Abens & Sarah Robina Tjalen. They had 5 children - Kenneth, Howard, Delmar, Yvonne & Marilee.

Lawrence Abens, 70, of Humboldt died Monday evening in Humboldt County Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Services will be at 2p.m. Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church, Humboldt, with burial in St. John's Cemetery, Palmer.  Friends may call at Lindhart Funeral Home after Tuesday. Surviving are the widow, Edna; sons, Kenneth Humboldt; Howard, Osage; daughters, Mrs. Gerald Noah, Des Moines; Mrs. Roger Collins, Humboldt; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers: Waite Abens, Manson; Louis, Pinellas Park, Fla.; Ernest, Humboldt; sisters, Mrs. Albert Janssen, Gilmore City; Mrs. Ted Ridenour, Burbank, Calif.; Mrs. Ora Stroup, Nelson, Calif., and Mrs. Donald Johnson, Gilmore City. Mr.Abens was born in Woodford County, and came to Lizard Lake as a child. He was educated there. He married Edna Keck in 1927 and they farmed in Humboldt County. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.

Crandall

According to the sources, this Crandall family descends from an Englishman named Elder John Crandall out of Rhode Island; a line with many a minister. An illustrious clan that included the inventor of the typewriter, the baby carriage and more, but regardless of the vocation, Crandall members where known to be sturdy of character and noble in principles.

This family is that of Claude Clarence Crandall who married our clan's Mabel Vera Yates, the daughter of Leander Yates & Edna S Learn. Mabel was born in Ischua, NY & Claude in Flint, MI and they married at Hinsdale, NY in 1899. To them, were born 6 children - Edna, Linford, Mildred, Alden, Donald & Harold.

Claude C Crandall, 425 1st Ave, died this morning (Sept 26, 1953) at the Olean General Hospital. He was born in Flint, Mich, May 16, 1880 and moved to this area when nine years of age. He had been a resident of Olean for the past 48 years. Mr Crandall was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad until he retired about five years ago. Surviving are two sons, Lynnford Y Crandall, Olean and Alden K Crandall, Jamestown; one daughter, Mrs Mildred A Tompkins, Olean; one brother, George Crandall, East Rochester; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. The body has been removed to the late home, where funeral services will be conducted Monday (Sept 28, 1953) at 2 pm. the Rev James F Horton, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Maplehurst Cemetery.

Mrs Mabel Crandall Dies At Hospital
Mrs Mabel Y Crandall, 425 First Avenue, wife of Claude C Crandall, died Sunday (April 1, 1951) at the Olean General Hospital. Mrs Crandall was born at Hinsdale June 16, 1878, and had been a resident of Olean forty-six years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and of the Philathea Class of that church. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Linford Y Crandall, Olean and Alden K Crandall, Jamestown; one daughter, Mrs Mildred A Tompkins, Buffalo; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. funeral services will be conducted at the family home on First Avenue Wednesday afternoon (April 4, 1951) at two o'clock with the Rev James F Horton, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Maplehurst Cemetery, Hinsdale.

Of the living children, Mildred married John Edward Tompkins, the son of Harry E Tompkins & Nellie Hines; and she married Perlee VanDeusen, the son of Frank VanDeusen & Ada Perlee. She did not have any children and she died in 1994 in Florida.

Edna & Harold never married.

Edna Crandall Succumbed To Short Illness
Miss Edna A Crandall, daughter of Mr and Mrs Claude C Crandall, passed away at the family residence, 425 First Avenue, Saturday evening at eight-fifteen o'clock, after a short illness. Miss Crandall was a life-long resident of Olean and was an alumna of Olean High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Silver Cross Class and World Wide Guild. Surviving besides her parents are one sister, Miss Mildred Crandall, this city; three brothers, Linford, Alden and Harold Crandall, all of Olean. Funeral services will be held at the home, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev A Frank Houser, pastor of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Maplehurst Cemetery.

Olean Youth Is Instantly Killed In Auto Accident
Harold E Crandall Victim Of Crash Near Smethport
Harold Eugene Crandall, nineteen, of 425 First Avenue, was fatally injured in an automobile accident that occurred at one-thirty o'clock this morning at the intersection of Routes 46 and 59 at East Smethport, PA. Mr Crandall was killed instantly when the car he was driving left the intersection and crashed into the porch of the Peter Fay home. Cause of death was a broken neck. Mr Crandall with two other local men, who were injured, were returnign from a jubilee celebration in Emporium to their homes here. According to Pennsylvania Motor Police at Smethport, it was foggy at the intersection and the car left the road. Mr Crandall was driving the car which was a 1940 sedan. Thomas Scanlon, Third Avenue, who was riding in the back seat, suffered a laceration of the right elbow and a possible fracture of the foot.  W D Miller, also of Third Avenue, in the front seat, received minor injuries.  Both returned to their homes. OHS Graduate - Mr Crandall was born in this city, August 26, 1921. He was graduated from the Olean High School in 1940 and was employed by the Olean Times-Herald Corporation. His survivors include his parents, Mr and Mrs Claude C Crandall; one sister, Miss Mildred Crandall; two brothers, Linford Y and Alden K Crandall, all of this city. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and of the Morris Lyman Sunday School Class of that church. The body will be removed from the Halwig Funeral Home to the late home tonight. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock at the home. The Rev Shields T Hardun, pastor of the First Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be at Maplehurt Cemetery.

Linford Y Crandall of 120 So 11st St, Olean, Head Custodian of Public School Two since 1958, was stricken with a heart attack at his home early Friday (July 3, 1964) and was pronounced dead on arrival at Olean General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Spink Funeral Ome, 646 E State St, here at 10:30 am, Tuesday (July 7, 1964) by the Rev Forrest B Fordham, pastor of the Olean First Baptist Church. Burail will be in Allegany Cembery. Memorial, if desired, may be made to the Heart Fund. Mr Crandall was born in Allegany, NY, July 22, 1905, the son of the late Claude and Mabel Yates Crandall. He was married to the Former Katherine Reazs on July 22, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr Crandall was a member of the First Methodist Church of Olean and the Rogerville Rod and Gun Club. He had been employed by the Olean Public School as head Custodian of School No 2 since 1958. Before that he was employed by the Market Basket from 1922 until 1940 and then with the Union Tank Car until 1949 and then with the Van der Horst Corp of America until 1953 and with the Daystrom until 1958. Mr Crandall is survived by his wife, Mrs Katherine Reazs Crandall; one daughter, Mrs Robert (Carolynn) Walrath of Olean; two sons Malcolm Crandall of Olean and Ronald Crandall at home; 4 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs John (Mildred) Tompkins of Olean and one brother Alden Crandall of Jamestown.

Mrs Katherine R Crandall of 120 South 11th St died at Olean General Hospital Thursday afternoon (Jan 27, 1966) following a long illness. Mrs Crandall was born in Olean Oct 24, 1899, a daughter of Willard L and Frances L Schuetz Reazs. She was the widow of Linford Y Crandall, who died in Olean July 3, 1964. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Mizpah Class and WSCS of the church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Caroline Walrath of Olean; two sons, Malcolm Crandall of Olean and Ronald Crandall of Great lakes naval Training Center at Chicago, Ill; four grandchildren; and a brother, Frank Reazs, and two sisters, Mrs Harold (Edith) Holdridge and Mrs James (Isabella) House, all of Olean. Friends may call this evening, 7 to 9 o'clock and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Saturday and Sunday at the Spink Funeral Home, 646 E State St. Funeral services will be held there Monday (Jan 31, 1966) at 1 pm. The Rev Leonad P Ives, minister of the First Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Home for Children at Williamsville, NY.

And Alden Kenneth Crandall married Shirley Ellen Gardner, the daughter of William J Gardner & Florence Parker. After Shirley died in 1972, Alden married a woman by the name of Anna Delaire, the daughter of Peter Delaire & Mary Rouleau. Sadly they were married less than month when Alden died.

New Port Richey, Fla - Alden K (Buzz) Crandall of 3447 Woodsville Drive, a former Olean resident, was pronounced dead on arrival at Community Hospital, New Port Richey, Monday (Feb 12,1973) after being stricken with an apparent heart attack at his home. Born in Olean, May 21, 1908, he was a son of Claude C and Mable V Yates Crandall. He married the former Shirley E Gardner, who died June 13, 1972. He later married the former Anna DeCaire, who survives. Mr Crandall had been a resident of Jamestown for 28 years prior to moving to New Port Richey after his retirement two and a half years ago. He had been an employee of the Thorn McAn Shoe Store in Olean, then in Jamestown, where he was the store's manager. Mr Crandall was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge 145 F&AM of Jamestown; Jamestown Lodge 263 BPOE; and the Eagles Lodge of New Port Richey. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving, in addition to his widow, are a sister, Mrs Jack (Mildred) Tompkins of Dunedin, Fla; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Halwig Funeral Home Inc, 117 Hamilton St, Olean, are incomplete and will be announced.

New Port Richey, Fla - Mrs Shirley E Crandall, RN of 3447 Woodsville Drive, a former Olean, NY resident, died Tuesday (June 13, 1972) at Community Hospital in New Port Richey, after a short illness. Born in Olean, June 3, 1907, she was a daughter of William J and Florence Parker Gardner. She married Alden K Crandall, who survives. Mrs Crandall was a graduate of the Olean General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1928. Following graduation, she was employed at the hospital as a registered nurse. Mr and Mrs Crandall moved to Jamestown, NY where they resided for 28 years. While there, Mrs Crandall was employed at Biglow's department Store. They moved to New Port Richey about two years ago. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sisters, Mrs Gilbert W (Mildred) Gooden and Mrs John E (Lillian) Hart, both of Olean; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs Crandall had been a member of the former First Methodist of Olean. Funeral arrangements, under the direct of Halwig Funeral Home Inc, 117 Hamilton St, Olean, are incomplete.
