James & His Two Wives

James Avery Champion was the son of Hiram Avery Champion & Caroline E Raymond - via his mother's line, it leads back to the Vincents.

From the various censuses & directories, it appears James was a building contractor who owned his own business. Then on the WWII draft card of 1942, he was working for the American Type Founders Inc company in Essex, NJ.

James married twice. He first married Helen Letitia Crombie, the daughter of Dr Walter Crombie & Alice Rice and they had 2 children - Aimee & Barbara.  Unfortunately, Helen died at the age 56 in 1942. In 1943, James married a widow, Jessie Frances Peabody, the daughter of Charles Darling & Susan Rice.
