William married Corrine Foltz, the daughter of William B Foltz & Mary Simpson and they had 3 children - Mary, William & Nancy. William & Corrine owned & operated the Schouten Furniture Store.

Retired Charleston Businessman Dies
Charleston - William Adelbert Schouten, 73, of 1001 Fourth St, died at 11 am Friday morning at the Charleston Community Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home. Mr Schouten was born May 25, 1902 in Chicago, a son of C B and Lillie Shields Schouten. He married Corinne Foltz on Oct 9, 1925 in Charleston. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Kay Schouten of Streator, and Mrs Mary Brant of San Diego, Calif; a son, William R of Flat Rock, Mich; two brothers, Bruce R of Muskegon, Mich and James of Shelbyville; and four grandchildren. Mr Schouten was a member of the Charleston Community Church. He was also a member of the Charleston Country Club and the Charleston Investment Club. He formerly owned the Schouten Furniture Store on the Square for many years. He was also a past president of the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce.
