Dewey Boettger & Helen Duncan

Helen Marie Duncan was the daughter of James 'Henry' Duncan & Wilhelmina Johanna 'Sarah' Beck.  Born in Paradise, IA, she was oldest of 5 children who married Dewey A Boettger, the son of German parents Fritz 'Fred' Boettger & Margritha 'Maggie' Petersen.  They had 4 children - Percy, Donald, James, & Elaine.

Helen Marie (Duncan) Boettger, 84, died Wednesday at Northern Montana Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holland and Bonine Chapel. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery with Rev. D.S. Ryding officiating. She married Dewey Boettger, July 6, 1920, in Denison, Iowa. Her husband came to Havre where she joined him in the summer of 1924. They lived north if Havre until the mid-1930s when they moved to town. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July 1970. She moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepard in 1980 where she lived until her death. Her husband worked for the Great Northern Railway until he retired in 1964. He died in January 1971. A grandson John M. Bowlby, also preceded her in death in December 1972. She was a 41 year member of the Women of the Moose, Havre order 681, and held many offices; she was a 34 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and a 10-year member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles. She is survived by her children, Percy A. of Havre; Donald D. of Spanaway, Wash., James A. of Tacoma, Wash., and Elaine M. Bowlby Boettger of Eagle River, Alaska, five Grandsons, one Granddaughter, and ten great Grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother Bernard Duncan, a sister Hattie Klinker, both of Denison, Iowa

Retired Great Northern employee Dewey Boettger died in Havre, Montana, hospital on January 24, 1971, at the age of 72. Born March 9, 1898, in Denison, Goodrich Township, Iowa, Boettger came to the Havre area in 1919 and farmed with a brother north of Havre. He returned in 1920 to Denison, Iowa, where he married the former Helen Duncan, and the couple returned to Havre in 1922 to work on the farm. They moved into Havre in 1937, and Boettger managed the municipal golf course from 1942 to 1950. He went to work for the Great Northern Railroad in 1943 and was storekeeper for the Great Northern diesel shop when he retired in 1964. Boettger was a member of the Lutheran church. Survivors include the widow, children, Donald and James of Tacoma, Washington, Percy of Havre and Mrs. Elaine Bowlby of Eagle River, Alaska; one brother, John of Denison, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Vosgerau of Denison, Iowa, Mrs. Amanda Verdugo of California and Mrs. Bertha Harlan of Redlands, California, and seven grandchildren. Services were Wednesday, January 27, 1971, at 10 a.m.in the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home with burial at the Calvary Cemetery.
