McCord Picture Story

Phebe Jane 'Jennie' Schouten was the daugher of James Schouten & Mary Ann Nessle. She married David McCord and had 5 children - Mary, Elbert, Addie, Nancy, & Alma.  They adopted David's nephew Alan Crippen in 1881 when his mother died. Alan Crippen lived as Alan McCord but was the son of David's sister Cemantha McCord & her husband Lowell Crippen.

The McCord family are so well recognized in Iowa that they are included in the book "Biographical History of Crawford, Ida and Sac Counties, Iowa" published by the Lewis Publishing Company in 1893.

Mary Hazlett 'Mamie' McCord married Robert Emmet Grason - he was a lawyer who went into business with her sister's husband William D Suiter.  The pair did not have any children & Mamie died in 1917, he in 1921.

Elbert Nessle 'Bert' Mccord married Ida M Bixler, the daugher of Isaac Awl Bixler & Mary E Jones.  Elbert & Ida had 5 children - Clarence, Gladys, Marcus, Jennie & Mary. 

There is a biography of Elbert in the "History of Crawford County, Iowa" Vol II, published by the SJ Clarke Publishing Co, 1911.

Addie Craze McCord - love her middle name! 

Addie married James Bixler, the brother of David's wife, and they had 8 children - Harry, Frank, Carl, James, Clarence, Arthur, Alice, Joseph.  I wrote about Harry, Frank & James in an earlier post.

Nancy Jane 'Nannie' McCord married William Dudley Suiter, the son of Cyrus F Suiter & Margaret E Gatton.  

Together they had 8 children - Bernice, Richard, Jennie, Mamie, Cora, Robert, William, Edgar.

Alma Angelia McCord married Edward Porter Duncan, the son of Joseph Porter Duncan & Hannah Maria Schouten.  They had 3 children - David, Edward & Ruth.  Edward died in 1944, she died in 1969

Last but not least, the adopted son - Alan R McCord.  He married Ruth Marie Wells, the daughter of John Mason Wells & Anna Judson Wrightsman and they had 3 children - Ruth, Alan & Francis.  He died in 1946 in Boise, Idaho.
