Actually, it’s back to the beginning!

I started my family research, genealogy, nearly 1o years ago…so much has changed not only with my skill level but also with available information.  In revisiting my tree at the beginning, I have fixed misinformation, found new information and many new family connections, it is like starting over!

And, over 10 years, I have collected so many pictures that I had to save them to a stick – so, for a while, I will be finishing off the line and posting pictures – some are old-time photos, some are new….

 ****I will be forever grateful to those who have shared their photos whether thru ancestry, genealogy blogs and websites and obits****

NOTE - if you are going to copy my stories & pics to ancestry or another site, know that like many others, I spend hours, upon hours doing the work of scouring the records - please, please, please credit the blog location - chvvictoria.blogspot.ca & my name - I want the visitors! 

And to my fellow Ancestry researchers - My public tree on ancestry is “Charles Vincent of Yonkers” – user chvvictoria - it is a work in progress and not up-to-date with my current research but I am adding to it as I revisit the past!

Kimbell Richard Vincent

My father’s brother died 8 Aug 2016 at Nanaimo, British Columbia.  He was born at Winnipeg, Manitoba 7 Nov 1938 to Byran Marshall Vincent & Neilsine Dorthe Christianson.

 As a young man, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force like his father.  He worked as a lumberman for time then as an architect/contractor. He built houses and he tinkered with astrology, stained glass and pewter.

He was married 3 times and had 2 children – his eldest, like me, got his mother’s moniker, mine is my first name, hers is her second – both boys loved their mother Neilsine who was taken from them when they were young – yet where did Christine come from?  A play on her last name, she was nicknamed Chris!

Later he took up writing and published a few books - I really enjoyed this one

John Lemuel Vincent, the son of John William Vincent & Mary Ann Rogers, had married MariaMcRobie and was buried at the Elmwood Cemetery at River Grove, IL after dying in the dead of winter at the city cells in Chicago.

It's easy to think that the man had gone out a tear.....or was just a run-of-the-mill derelict.......but......the truth of the situation was found in the obit....

The Inter Ocean, Mon, 17 Jan 1910

John L Vincent, 40 years old, died suddenly in the Harrison Street police station, where he had gone for medical attention, yesterday afternoon.  Pneumonia is believed to have caused his death.  Vincent went to the police station with Lewis Martin, 24 South Green Street, a friend.  He complained of being ill and Dr C H Wall of the Harrison Street relief station was notified.  Before the physician arrived, Vincent expired.  His body was taken to McNally & Duffy's undertaking rooms, 518 Wasbash Avenue and the coroner was notified.

Charles Wesley Arbuckle

I remember when I was researching Charles David Arbuckle & Margaret 'Alice' McDonald - I stumbled with Charles Wesley.  The problem was who was his mother because Charles Sr had married twice.   His 2nd wife was Lydia Mason and she is listed as the mother on a few documents but it isn't possible given that Charles Sr didn't marry her until 1906 - that's when I discovered the 2nd marriage and Junior's mother despite what the records indicated.

Wesley Charles Arbuckle, 84, Merigomish, died Friday, Jan. 16 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.  Born in Merigomish, he was a son of the late Charles and Lydia (Patton) Arbuckle.  He was retired from the Department of Highways as a heavy equipment operator and was also a retired fisherman.  He was a member, elder and choir member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.  He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Dick; two daughters, Margaret (Mrs Donald Behn), Ottawa; Claudia (Mrs Niles Cameron), Hamilton, Ont.; a son, Sterling, Alberta; two sisters, Edith (Mrs Warren Riggs), New Glasgow; Laurie (Mrs Sterling O'Donnell), Stellarton; three brothers, Willard, Merigomish; Norman, Downsview, Ont.; Alexander, Pictou; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine; a brother, Ray. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, Rev. Pat Rose officiating. Burial was in Murray's Point Cemetery. Donations may be made to any charity.

Silent Film Pianist

A while ago I wrote about Leah Olive Vincent and how she played the piano at the local theatre during the silent film era…..I have since found her obit and here’s another picture my Aunt Wendy shared.

 VINCENT - In hospital on April 26, 1967, Miss Leah Olive Vincent aged 76 years, late of Richmond. Survived by 2 nephews, David Vincent, Toronto; Bryan Vincent, Burnaby; 2 nieces, Mrs. S. (Olive) Smith, Vancouver, Mrs. Marion Watson, Richmond; also several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral service Saturday April 29 at 2 pm. in the chapel of Richmond Funeral Home. 842 Cambie Rd., Richmond. Rev. Glen Baker officiating. Cremation, Flowers in containers please.
