Jim Anderson Dies, Injured In Accident
James A. Anderson, 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson of 1105 Lincoln Avenue, Stambaugh, passed away Wednesday night at the Stambaugh General Hospital of multiple injuries sustained at 10:15 Monday morning when the motorcycle he was riding was struck in the rear by an automobile on US-2, six tenths of a mile east of the Iron River city limits. Anderson had been listed in critical condition at the Stambaugh General Hospital, and had been unconscious since the accident Monday. However, it was reported yesterday that he began showing slight response. The youth sustained multiple injuries when his motorcycle was struck from behind by a car driven by Mrs. Ada Wollack, 43, of Superior, Wis., who was traveling east. The auto struck the motorcycle with its right front fender. Anderson was thrown 94 feet by the impact, and the gasoline tank on the motorcycle exploded and burst into flames. The accident is still under investigation by the Michigan State Police. Anderson was rushed to the Stambaugh General Hospital by the Duvall ambulance, where he received emergency surgery. Attending physicians included Dr. J.C. Nora of Iron River and Dr. Carlson of Iron Mountain. Friends and relatives of the youth had maintained a vigil at the hospital, ready to assist with blood donations if necessary. The body is at the LaFave Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
