Resolutions of the Federated Churches of Mannsville, NY, on the Death of Mrs Carrie Hurlburt
Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God in His wise providence to removed our sister from the scenes of her earthly usefulness to the domain of the Great Master above, and while we deplore the loss of our sister with feelings of deep regret, we desire to express our appreciation of the honorable career and noble Christian character of the decease in the community in which she has lived for the past five years. But most of all, our hearts will go out in sympathy to the devoted husband, Rev B F Hurlburt, bereft of a loving companion, and to the sons, bereft of a kind and devoted mother, whose joys and sorrows she has shared for so many years. Resolved, that our heartfelt sympathy be tendered to the family in their bereavement. Resolved, that as a token of respect, this memorial be entered in the church records, a copy sent to the bereaved family and also to the local papers for publication. "Should she be gone, you'd find that home. E'en though it might be plain and small, Would lack a something that should come, As sunbeams through the shutters fall. Should she be gone the empty chair, Could ne'er be filled by anyone; For as they sat around her there, Her smiles and patience were like sun. Should she be gone, 'tis hard to say, Wives and mothers fill such space, As makes this world worth while to stay, What could we do, who could replace, Should she be gone?" ~ The Board of Trustees of the Federated Churches
