DeVoe Children


Charles Anthony Devoe & amanda Chapel had 7 children: Adelaide, Luella, Harley, Lloyd, Claude, Floyd, and a baby boy.

Adelaide Delphine & Luella Adella Devoe never married and both worked for the Wisconsin Veteran's Home.

Adelaide DeVoe, 93, a resident of Bethany Home, Waupaca, died there Thursday.  She was born Oct. 15, 1890, in Adams County, the daughter of Charles and Amanda Chapel DeVoe. Miss DeVoe lived for 60 years in the Waupaca area, working for 30 years in the laundry at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home, King. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Waupaca. Surviving are two brothers, Claude and Floyd, both of Oshkosh. Services will be at 11 am Monday in Holly Funeral Home, Waupaca, the Rev Eugene Gauerke officiating. Burial will be in Parfreyville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-5 pm Sunday.

Ill One Year, Miss DeVoe, 64, Dies at Her Home
Waupaca - Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon for Miss Luella DeVoe, 64, of 112 1/2 E Lake St, who died at her home Tuesday at 3 am following a year's illness. The Rev A S Peterson pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate at the services at the Bammel Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home until time of services. She was born Oct 24, 1892, in the Town of Colburn, Adams County and was employed for 36 years at the Veterans Home, King. She retired two years ago. Surviving are one sister, Adelaide, King; and three brothers, Claude, Lloyd and Floyd, all of Oshkosh.

Harley Allen Devoe was married twice - first to Edith Violet McGregor, the daughter of James M McGregor & Christina E Peterson and they had 2 children, Boyd & Beverly. Unfortunately, Edith died at the age of 30.  

Ten years after her death, Harley married Ardis T Peevy, the daughter of Elmer E Peevy & Jennie D Christensen.

Lloyd Eugene Devoe married Meta Lydia Schroder, the daughter of August Schroeder & Bertha Behling. Meta & Lloyd had 2 sons, David & Steven. 

Lloyd worked as a fireman for nearly 25 years, retiring as Captain of the Oshkosh Fire Department in 1954. Also, he owned & operated the Crossroads Bar that he ended up selling to make room for a highway interchange.

Electrician Claude Abram Devoe married Ruth Winifred Johns, the daughter of Sherman G Johns & Maude G Hunter and they had 3 children, Betty, Paul & Raymond. Claude died in 1985.

Mrs Ruth DeVoe, 58, of 744 Woodland Ave, died Tuesday at 6:05 am at her home. She had been in ill health for six years. She was born in Oshkosh on July 4, 1904, daughter of Sherman and Maude Johns, and was married here to Claude DeVoe on June 26, 1926. Mrs DeVoe attended the Oshkosh Normal School. She was a member of Algoma Boulevard Methodist Church, WSCS of the church, Oriental Chapter 16, Order of Eastern Star, and Ivy Rebekah Lodge 38. Surviving are her husband, Claude; one daughter, Mrs W E Ellison, Fond du Lac; two sons, Paul A and Raymond DeVoe, Oshkosh; one brother, Fred DeVinney, Columbus, Wis; and five grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday at 3 pm at Seefeld Funeral Home with the Rev Roy Deming, pastor of Algoma Boulevard Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4pm today until the hour of services.

Mailman Floyd Anthony Devoe married Marion Frances Bessex, the daughter of Alfred E Bessex & Elizabeth M Sarau and they had 2 children, Marilyn & Gerald.
