The Hegeman Girls


John Hegeman & Eve Johnson had 5 daughters – Margaret, Caroline, Bathsheba, Martha & Hannah – of the 5, Margaret died young and Caroline goes missing after the 1860 census in her 30s.

Bathesheba married Lemuel G Hill in 1888 – he died in 1895, and she remarried Daniel Hammond in 1863 and he died in 1878.  Bathesheba died in 1908 (no children by either marriage)

Mrs Bathesheba Hageman Hill died last evening at the Masonic Home of a complication of diseases causing heart failure.  She entered the home June 15, 1897, through St Patrick's Lodge, No 4, Johnstown.  She was 80 years old.  Her husband, Lemuel G Hill, was a gunsmith in Hageman's Mills, where there are many of her surviving relatives, also of her brother, Michael Hageman.  Her remains will be interred in the cemetery of the Masonic Home.

Martha married James Harvey Roberts in 1854 and they had 5 children - Antoninette, Emma, Minerva, John & Ella

Martha Ann Hegeman, wife of James H Roberts, died at her home at Mayfield Wednesday, aged 75.  She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs Antoinette Dixon, Mrs Minerva Thompson and Mrs Ella Van Avery, all of Mayfield; one brother, Micah Hegman of Gloversville; two sisters, Mrs Bathsheba Hill of Utica; and Mrs Hannah J Baker of Florida, besides ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

James H Roberts, aged 82 years, died at his home in the town of Mayfield, Wednesday.  Mr Roberts has resided on his farm in Mayfield all his life and was among the best known residents of the township.  He had been a member of the Methodist Church of Mayfield for sixty years.  He leaves three daughters, Mrs Antoinette Dixon, Mrs Minerva Thompson and Mrs Ella Van Avery; two sisters, Mrs Marietta Banks and Mrs Anna Hathaway; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Mayfield.  Seven generations of the Roberts family have now made their homes at this farm.  Mr Roberts was a member of Holy Cross commandery, Knights Templar, 51, of Gloversville, and also of the Mayfield grange, 683.  The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 1:30, and at two o'clock in the ME Church at Mayfield.

The baby of the family, Hannah J Hegeman, married Darius Baker around 1865 and had 5 children - Nellie, Carrie, Benona, Alice & Hannah P.  Both died in Citrus Co, Florida - Darius died in 1907 and Hannah in 1909.
