In my last blog, I
wrote about Alexander Whidden & Sarah Stevens - today I write about their
daughter Lydia.
Lydia was 20 when she
married William ‘McCully’ Bryson, a fellow Nova Scotian, who worked as a farmer
and was born at Johnson Creek, NS to Charles Bryson & Emily McCully. Mac died in 1938, Lydia in 1953 and they are both buried at the Hilden Cemetery, Hilden, NS. Look at that hat ~~ love, love, love it!

Lydia and Mac had 6
children – 4 boys and 2 girls. All four
boys served during the wars, 2 of those boys
were lost to the family during World War I
Jared Kennedy & Emily Bryson |
Their eldest, Emily McCully Bryson married Maj Jared Fenwick Kennedy, the son of Robert Hamilton Kennedy & Elizabeth Jane Ross - they too are buried at the Hilden Cemetery (thank you Jody MacKeil for the tombstone pics at Hilden)
Lt Elmer Clark Bryson |
Lt Elmer Clark Bryson died in 1916 in France and is buried at the Adanac Miltary Cemetery in Miraumont, France (picture of tombstone provided by the Canadian Veteran Affairs - Canadian Virtual War Memorial)
Leslie Waller & Sadie Bryson |
Sadie Irene Bryson married Leslie Thomas Waller, the son of George G Waller and Mary Wynn. They are buried at the Robie Street Cemetery, Truro, NS (thank you Heather Gorrie Mahoney for the tombstone pic).
Pvt Lyle Whidden Bryson |
Pvt Lyle Whidden Bryson is the 2nd son to have lost his life during WWI and he died at Vimy in 1917. He was reported missing in action and is one of many listed on the war memorial.
Maj Harold Max Bryson was too young for WWI but what his parents must of gone thru when he announced he was going up. He survived and died at the young age of 48 and is buried with his parents at HIlden.

Roy Bryson & Elva Logan |
And the baby Roy Arnold Bryson followed big brother into the war and also survived! He married Elva Leota Logan, the daughter of Samuel Logan and Estella Hollingsworth. Of the six Bryson kids, Roy is the only who had kids - 4 of them! Roy died in 1975 and Elva died in 1995 - they are buried at Hilden as well
Great photos!
