Hannah Rogers was the daughter of Hezekiah Rogers Jr & Hannah Vincent. One of 6 children, she was born around 1769 at Beekman, NY and her husband's name was found in her father's will.

She married Jacob Smith, the son of John Smith & Margaret Wiltsie out of Rumbout, NY and they had 3 children - Hezekiah, Stephen R & Isaac J.

Stephen R Smith married twice. First to Ruth Emma Howland, the daughter of Elisha Howland & Rhoda Powell and they had 5 children - Hannah, Jane B, Hezekiah, Caroline & a baby boy.

Second, he married Abigail Filkin, the daughter of Cornelius Filkin & Charity Smith and they had 3 children - Lewis, Laban & George. 

And here we are Hezekiah Smith of 1835-1912. 

A farmer like his father, he too married twice - first, the mother of his children was a girl named Catharine. Then he married Nancy May Thorn, the daughter of Joseph J Thorn & Elizabeth Collins. Of his children, they were Byron, Birdie, Charles, Homer, Ella & Elmer.

Death of Hezekiah Smith

Waterloo, Oct 10 - Hezekiah Smith, a retired farmer and one of the most highly esteemed residents of Junius, died at his late home there last night, aged 76 years. The cause of death was nephritis. Mr Smith was a native of Half Moon, Saratoga County, but had resided for more than a half century in Junius. He is survived by four sons, Byron, Charles, Homer and Elmer Smith, all of Junius, a daughter, Mrs Ella Hamilton, of East Rochester, and a granddaughter, Mrs George Stephens, also of East Rochester. The funeral will be held from the home of Charles Smith, Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev T S Day, pastor of the Junius Presbyterian Church, of which the deceased was a member, officiating. Burial will be in the Southwick Cemetery.

Mrs Nancy Smith, wife of Hezekiah Smith, of Junius, died yesterday morning of malarial fever.

Hezekiah & Catharine's sons Homer & Elmer never married.  Homer tried to kill himself when he was 21 but he lived until he was 75 years old!

Homer Smith, 75, lifelong resident of Junius, north of Waterloo, died tuesday night, November 23, in the home of his brother, Charles Smith, after a long illness. Surviving besides his brother is a niece, Mrs George W Stevens of Rochester. Private funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon in the Charles Smith home by Rev Herbert w Lamb, Jr, rector of St Paul's Episcopal Church, with burial in Southwick Cemetery, Junius.

Waterloo - Elmer Smith, 61, town of Junius, died here yesterday, Sept 24, 1935.  He is survived by three brothers, Byron and Charles Smith, Junius, Homer Smith, South Lyons, and a sister, Mrs Ella Hamilton, East Rochester.  Funeral services will be at 11 am tomorrow in [46] West Main Street, with burial in Southwick Cemetery, Junius.

Rogers

Gilbert Rogers was the son of  John Rogers & Mary Skidmore. Born in Beekman, he relocated to Hamilin with his wife & son. He had married Naomi Burch who died sometime before 1875 in Monroe Co, NY.

Brockport Republic, Thurs, 10 Sep 1896

Mr Gilbert Rogers died here suddenly last Friday. He was born at Beekman, Dutchess County, NY. For several years he lived at Hamlin Centre, and was considered an industrious and thrifty farmer. Later he lived in Clarkson. More recently he lived in Brockport, where he died as stated. His wife died several years ago. The only surviving member of his family is his son James S Rogers, a merchant at Rochester.

Their son James S Rogers owned and operated a grocery store at Rochester and he married a girl named Amelia May Secor, the daughter of Cordillo Orland Secor & Eliza A Osborn.

The death of James S Rogers, son-in-law of Mrs Eliza A Scor, occurred in Rochester yesterday, at the age of 62 years. The remains were brought to Brockport. The funeral will take place from the home of Mrs Secor, corner Fayette and Liberty streets tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev Mr Peeples, officiating. Interment in Lake View Cemetery.

Strangest Set of Co-Inky-Dinks

While it is not unusual for a husband and wife to die in the same year, it is unusual if it happens to their son, daughter and grandchild too?

Judith Rogers was the daughter of John Rogers & Mary Skidmore. She married Samuel Augustus Doughty and they had 3 children - Gilbert, Anna & Augusta.

Judith, Samuel and their youngest, Augusta, all died in 1898? 

Then Gilbert and his wife died in 1926?  

Then Frank, Gilbert's son, and his wife Sarah both die in 1948?

It's the strangest set of co-inky-dinks I have ever seen!?!

Gilbert Doughty Passes Away In East Fishkill
Well Known Farmer For Years Has Been Resident of Hopewell - Was In His 89th Year
Gilbert Doughty, one of the oldest and best known farmer of East Fishkill, passed away on the 29th after a long illness. The deceased was in his 89 year and had resided at the homestead there for a great many years. All his family, except his son Frank who survives him, had passed away before him. Mr Doughty was a farmer by occupation and his farm, just at the entrance to the hamlet of Hopewell Junction, was known by many. He was a farmer of the old school and always kept his farm in a good state of cultivation. In his town he was probably one of the best known men. He took a keen interest in all town affairs. He was a good neighbor and although of advanced age for years, he was always highly esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves one son, Frank, to mourn his loss. His funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 from the late home and interment will be in the Hopewell cemetery under the direction of undertakers Roosa & Schierding of Fishkill.

Mrs Gilbert Doughty Dies In East Fishkill
Mrs Gilbert Doughty, an aged resident of East Fishkill, died at her home near Hopewell Junction, on Tuesday after a long illness. The deceased was 66 years of age and had resided in that town for many years where she had a large circle of friends. She is survived by her husband and several children. The funeral will be held from the home on Friday afternoon at one o'clock, standard time. Interment will be in the family plot in the Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of undertakers Roosa & Schierding.

Frank Doughty Dies In Hopewell
Frank Doughty, 68, lifelong resident and retired farmer of the Town of East Fishkill, died today (Nov. 8, 1949) at his home on Route 82, Hopewell Junction, after a few months illness. Mr. Doughty was born in Hopewell Junction on November 11, 1879, the son of Gilbert and Ella Morse Doughty. He married Sarah Palen on Dec. 17, 1903. She died June 1, 1948. Mr. Doughty was a communicant of the church of the Resurrection in Hopewell Junction. Surviving are one son, Louis A. Doughty, one granddaughter, Alice Katharine Doughty. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Resurrection in Hopewell, the Rev. Arthur Brown officiating. Interment in charge of the Roberts Funeral Home, of Wappinger Falls, will take place in the Old Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may visit the late residence on Monday between 7 and 9 p.m.

Augusta Doughty Bryant
On Tuesday morning March 1, there passed from earth to Heaven the spirit of Augusta Doughty Bryant, wife of Frederick Bryant, of Highland, NY, formerly of Hopewell Junction, NY. Her sickness was of short duration, being taken with grippe January 6th, which developed acute Brights Disease, which progressed so rapidly that there was no help for it. Surely a bright and shining light has been quenched, a useful life cut off and a happy home broken up. Of a bright and cheerful nature she endeared herself to all. Although she had never identified herself with any particular church, she enjoyed divine worship and was a sincere, praying Christian of the quiet, unassuming kind, believing the life and deeds of a person speak for themselves and that God could read the heart and understand and taking the Golden Rule as her guide in life and living up to it as nearly as possible for human beings to do, she felt she could safely leave the rest with God in whom she trusted.

Postmaster Bryant Dead - Prominent Republican at Hopewell Junction
Fred Bryant, the postmaster at Hopewell Junction, died on Monday at his home on Fishkill Avenue, that village, after an illness of ten days or two weeks of pleuro-pneumonia. Mr Bryant was a well known and prominent citizen of his town. He was in the 53d year of his age. About two years ago, Mr Bryant, with his brother Charles, bought the store long carried on by the E C Macomber at Hopewell Junction, dealing in general merchandise. Some time previous to that, he carried on the coal and general feed business now owned by W S Estelle. A year ago last fall, Mr Bryant married Miss Baldwin, of Stormville, she being his second wife. The funeral will be held on Thursday at 2 pm from his late residence in Hopewell Junction.

Charles E Van Kleeck was the only son of Robert Myndert Van Kleeck & Hannah Rogers born in 1842 at Beekman, NY. 

He married Katherine B Rogers, the son of James W Rogers & Mary Besley and they had 2 children - Mary & Robert.

As outlined in the booklet "Commemorative biographical record of Dutchess County, New York, containing biographical sketches of prominent and representative citizens, and of many of the early settled families" by J H Beers in 1897, Charles & his parents were prominent individuals in Dutchess Co (pg 933).
