Zylpha Peck


I love this name Zylpha - sooo original!

Zylpha Ellen Peck was the daughter of Elsworth Devillo Peck & Anna Marie Raftery and she married John Ray Cranston, the son of John A Cranston & Sarah A McCreight; they had 6 children - Robert, Darline, Alee, Phyllis, Donald & Bruce.

Last Rites for Mrs Cranston
Funeral services for Mrs J R Cranston were held at 930 am, Wednesday, July 29 at St Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt with the Reverend Father Ernst officiating at the Requiem High Mass. Mrs W M Schoeberl played the organ and the Children's Choir sang the mass. Two of Mrs Cranston's grandchildren, Greg and Jeff Cranston and Dennis Dinges were Mass servers. Burial was in St Martin's Catholic Cemetery at Odebolt with Robert Keith Cranston, Steve Cranston, Roger Cranston, Danny Snyder, Jim Snyder and Pat Bengford, her grandsons, the attendants. Zylpha Ellen Peck, daughter of Anna and Devillo Peck, was born February 16, 1893 at Odebolt, Iowa and died July 26, 1959 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee following a heart attack. She attended school at Odebolt and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to John Ray Cranston of Odebolt, December 31, 1912. They resided on a farm northeast of Odebolt until 1944.  At that time, they moved to Long Beach Calif to make their home, coming to Odebolt every summer to visit their children. She is survived by her husband, and family of three sons and three daughters: Keith Cranston of Leland, Miss Darline, Mrs V M Nitzke of Enterprise, Oreg; Alice, Mrs Ambrose Snyder of Arthur; Phyllis, Mrs Edmund Bengford of Odebolt; Donald of Odebolt; and Bruce of Popejoy. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Ward Duffy, and a brother, Glen Peck both of Fort Worth Texas. The children and their wives and husbands were all present for the funeral.

Death Claims Ray Cranston Friday - Services Were Held at St Martin's Monday
JR Cranston, 75, died Friday, July 2 in St Joseph's Hospital in Sioux city.  He was a resident of St Monica's Nursing Homes in Sioux City for several weeks following an illness, but returned home May 31. He had been feeling well until his sudden illness last week. Funeral services were held at St Martin's Church in Odebolt at 10am Monday, July 5. The Rev Father Linus Eisenbacher officiated at the Requiem High Mass. Burial was in St Martin's Cemetery at Odebolt with Roger Cranston, James Snyder, Steven Cranston, James Snyder, Steven Cranston, Bradley Cranston, Raymond Drey and Mar Cranston, all grandsons, the attendants. John Ray Cranston was born August 1, 1889 on the Cranston farm north of Odebolt, the son of James A And Alice Cranston. He lived most of his life on the farm until he retired and moved with his wife to Long Beach, Cal in 1944. He was preceded in death by his wife Zylpha Ellen in 1959 and by a son, Donald R in 1963. Survivors include five children, Keith of Leland, Miss; Mrs V M (Darline) Nitzke of Enterprise, Oregon; Mrs Ambrose (Alice) Snyder of Arthur; Mrs Edmund (Phyllis) Bengford of Ida Grove, and Bruce of Sioux Rapids; 27 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Archie P Cranston of Odebolt, and two sisters, Mrs Ella Frevert of Bigstone, SD, and Mrs Ethel David of Minneapolis, Minn. Relatives from a distance attending the services were Mr and Mrs Ward Duffy and Kay of Fort Worth, Texas; Mr and Mrs Warren Cranston, Howard Cranston, and Harold Cranston of Huron, SD; Mr and Mrs Donald Sonius of Spencer; Mr and Mrs Curtis Mass, Mr and Mrs Floyd Larson, and Mr and Mrs Giefield Gjire of Flandreau, SD
