May - December

For those unaware, May-December romances generally refers to a couple where there is a significant age gap – Demi Moore & Ashton Kushner from Hollywood, Emmanuel & Brigitte Macron from France, and well, all of Hugh Hefner’s wives!

In our humble line, we have Jennie Mae Swan, born 1882 in West New Annan to Andrew Mitchell Swan and Sarah Vincent.  Jennie was a nurse and I imagine while she was in Boston training, she met her December love…..

William Edward Ball, a salt salesman, was born in 1858 in Milford, Massachusetts to Zenas Ball and Catherine Long and he was a widow when he married Jennie in 1919 at Boston, MA.

William died in 1938 in the Bronx, NY and it appears he was buried with his family and/or perhaps his first wife at the Ferncliff Cemetery.  Jennie died in the Bronx as well but she was buried with her parents at the New Annan Bell Gift Cemetery in 1974.

What prompted the post though was a picture – rough as it is, I loved it.  It’s from William’s passport application in 1920 found on Ancestry.

I wish I had found obits for them….
