Charles M Smith was the son of John Smith and
Catherine, Kate, Vincent, born in Wentworth, NS. He married Sarah Jane Malone, the daughter of
James William Malone and Nancy Jane Ramsey.
Together they had 11 children that I could find and it appears 2 or 3 of
them died young – George, Mary and William Smith are only found on one or two
censuses.
James A Smith, the eldest was a carpenter who
relocated to Massachusetts and married Sarah ‘Emma’ Chetwynd, the daughter of
Moses Chetwynd and Agnes Robertson. He
was buried in his wife’s family plot at the Port Clyde Cemetery, Port Clyde,
NS.

John Thomas ‘Little’ Smith was a carpenter and
he married a Jessie Ellen
MacDonald, the daughter of Arhcibald Allan MacDonald
& Annie Gillis. John is buried at
the New Annan Bell Gift Cemetery
Jane Maud Smith was married twice. First she married Edward Evertt MacLean who
hailed from Yarmouth, NS and was the son of Charles MacLean & Elizabeth
Perry. Then she married James William
Gillis, also from Yarmouth and was the son of Stephen Gillis & Mary Lent. She died sometime after 1940 and was last found
in Arlington, MA. Both men were carpenters.
Joseph Edward Smith followed his father into
farming and married Harriet Emma Robertson, the daughter of Joseph Robertson
and Annie Acker. They are both buried at
the McKenzie Cemetery in Pugwash, NS.
Arthur T Smith was married and had one son,
Joseph. I couldn’t track all of his movements but it looks like he was in
Massachusetts at one point and no luck with a marriage entry but he was listed
as widowed on his death entry. I would
like to think he died enjoying the view based on his obit:

Postman Finds Man Dead, Sitting in Chair
West New Annan, March 2 - Arthur Smith, who lived alone in his home
on Florida Road, was discovered dead Thursday, when the postman in the district
investigated after Mr. Smith failed to collect his mail, delivered the previous
two days.
Percy Patriquin, delivering the mail on R.R.1 Wentworth, with
Kelley Letcher, car driver, on Wednesday had a pension cheque for Mr. Smith. He
failed to meet the mailman. On Thursday
when he again failed to appear, the mailman asked his driver to take the cheque
into the house, Mr. Fletcher found the door locked, but saw the elderly
gentleman sitting in his rocking chair. Neighbors were notified and the police
called. Later in the day an investigation was held. Those present were Dr. Dan
Murray, Constable J.L. Lewis, Barrister William Neilson, Tatamagouche; Edward
Smith, Malagash, brother of the deceased; Kelly Letcher, and Mr. Smith's
nearest neighbors.
It was decided at this inquiry that an inquest was not necessary.
The deceased was last seen by a neighbor, Russell Flanagan, on last Sunday,
sawing wood outside his home. Neighbors cannot recall seeing any light or smoke
from the house since that time, and groceries purchased on the previous Friday
were still unopened.
Deceased was in his 86th year and was born in Wentworth, Cumberland
County, and was a veteran of World War One.
He settled in New Annan about four years ago.
He is survived by one son Joseph in the United States; one sister,
Maude, Arlington, Mass.; three brothers, Edward, Malagash; Martin, Ontario; and
Sidney, Kemptown.
The funeral will be held in West New Annan United Church on
Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Gerald Bruce of Tatamagouche officiating. Interment
will be in Bell Gift cemetery, West New Annan.
Ethel Irene Smith married Ralph Everington
Ferson, the son of Elbert Everington Ferson & Mary Ella ‘Marion’ Emery out
of New Hampshire. She died in 1914 at
Waltham, MA during childbirth and was buried at the Glenwood Cemetery in
Lebanon, NH.
Sydney Randolph Smith was a lumberman who
remained in Nova Scotia

Truro - Sydney Randolph SMITH, 86, of 34 Queen Street, Truro, died
Saturday in Colchester Hospital. Born in East Wentworth, he was a son of
the late Charles and Sarah (Malone) Smith. He was a retired
lumberman. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by seven brothers and three sisters. The body is at Mattatall
Funeral Home, Truro, from where the funeral will be Tuesday 2 p.m. Rev. David
MacNaughton officiating. Spring burial in the Bell Gift cemetery, New Annan.
Lastly, Martin Leonard Smith married Janet
Anderson Aitchison, the daughter of John R Aitchison & Adella MacNutt. The pair relocated to Timmins, Ont.
