Mattie Brown Mecum Dies In California
Miss Jean Hunt received a letter last week from Preston Mecum of Chico, California, in which he told of the death of his mother, Mrs Lisle Mecum and daughter Elizabeth, Christmas night. After having Christmas together in Chico, Mrs Mecum, Daughter Elizabeth and son Preston were on there way to Elizabeth's home in Sacramento, when another car came across the highway and struck them head on. Death was instantaneous to Mrs Mecum, and Elizabeth and only a miracle of fate saved Preston from Death. Mrs Mecum, the former Mattie Brown, was the older daughter of Preston S and Lillian Parker Brown and spent her younger days in Fayette and vicinity. She would have been 64 last February 21. Among those surviving are her husband, Lisle Mecum, son Preston Mecum of Chico, Calif and a sister, Mrs Mable Sifford of Oakland, Calif. Her mother, Mrs Lillian Brown Rogers died last October at Chico.
